Jeweller loses 1 kg gold bar in train

Jolarpet police investigating case

A gold bar weighing one kg was reportedly stolen from a 35-year-old jeweller in a moving train on Tuesday night.

The Police attached to the Government Railway Police (GRP) of Jolarpet registered a case following a complaint from the jeweller and are conducting an inquiry.

According to the police, Anand, a resident of Post Office Street, Amburpet in Vaniyambadi Taluk, has a jewellery shop in Vaniyambadi.

He boarded the Alappuzha Express at Chennai Central railway station carrying the gold bar to reach Vellore. He was travelling in S6 coach.

Mr. Anand told the police that he was carrying the gold bar in his trouser pocket. It was in his possession when he checked as the train reached Arakkonam railway station.

Later, he fell asleep. The gold bar was missing when he alighted at the Jolarpet station at 11.55 p.m.

He had reservation up to Jolarpet as the train does not stop at Vaniyambadi, police said.

Following a complaint from Anand, the Jolarpet GRP registered a case.

Georgy George, SP, GRP conducted an inquiry at Jolarpet.
