An auditor on Monday told a trial court that a group of henchmen had attacked him at his residence here nearly 10 years ago at the instance of the Kanchi Acharya Jayendra Saraswati.

S. Radhakrishnan said he had expressed doubts to Jayendra Saraswati, head of the Kanchi Sankara Mutt, whether the gold collected for the ‘Kanakabishekam' of the former senior Acharya Chandrasekarendra Saraswati, had been properly utilised. Jayendra Saraswati had hired men to assault him, he alleged.

On September 20, 2002, Radhakrishnan, auditor for the Kanchi Mutt, was assaulted by a gang when he was in his Mandaveli residence. A case was registered by the Foreshore Estate police and 12 persons, including Jayendra Saraswati, were cited as accused. The charge sheet was filed in 2006.

Deposing as a prosecution witness before the First Additional Sessions Court Judge K. Dakshinamuthy, Mr. Radhakrishnan said he was not happy with the way in which the gold plating and renovation work were done in the Kamatchi Amman temple at Kanchipuram. When he asked Jayendra Saraswati about this, he said it would be rectified later. He also asked him whether the entire gold was utilised. He had doubts whether the entire quantity had actually been utilised for the function. After recording his evidence, the Judge posted the case for cross examination on June 12.
