AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Sunday exhorted the party cadre to launch a door-to-door campaign to ensure victory for the party in all the 40 seats so that the party gets to be part of the new government at the Centre and play a crucial role. In a statement issued here, Ms. Jayalaithaa said that the AIADMK should be part of the Union Government to undo all the “damages” caused to the State by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the past ten years.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) remained a constituent of the UPA for nine out of the ten year term, she reminded the electorate.
The misrule of the Congress-led UPA government with DMK as its constituent led to the collapse of the rule of law, plundering of natural resources, financial irregularities and turning public sector undertakings into loss making sick units, she charged.
Both the Congress led UPA rule at the Centre and the DMK rule in the State from 2006 to 2011 caused a setback to the growth and development of Tamil Nadu.
After the historic win in 2011 Assembly elections, Ms. Jayalalithaa said she had restored the rule of law and the welfare schemes introduced by her which has come for appreciation from the people. To retrieve the rights of the Tamils and for renaissance of the State and Puducherry, the victory in all seats was crucial, she said emphasising that power and authority should be wielded for welfare of the people and not for the benefit of few individuals.
This Lok Sabha elections would be a turning point in the history of the country.
To protect the State’s interest, it was necessary that the AIADMK won all the 40 seats and become part of the new government at the Centre, she said.
