Jayalalithaa to launch Music Academy festival

September 28, 2012 02:23 am | Updated 02:49 am IST - CHENNAI:

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will launch the Music Academy’s annual music festival, which is the institution’s 86 edition of conference and concerts on December 15.

According to a press note from the Music Academy, the Chief Minister spontaneously accepted the request made by the Academy president, N. Murali, when he called on her on Thursday.

In a way, Ms. Jayalalithaa would be fulfilling a promise made to the organisers during her previous term as Chief Minister in December 2005 when she had to pull out of her commitment to launch the prestigious music event as she had to personally monitor relief measures in the wake of unprecedented floods in Chennai at that time. Ms. Jayalalithaa had then promised to inaugurate a future edition of the music festival.
