In 2008, within a month of taking charge as Chief Minister for the third time, Mr. Modi, accompanied by his colleague in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ravi Shankar Prasad, called on the AIADMK leader at her residence on the eve of Pongal festival and their luncheon meeting lasted two hours.
In May 2011, when Ms Jayalalithaa took charge as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for the third time, Mr. Modi participated in the swearing-in ceremony.
Four months later, she deputed her party floor leaders in Parliament, M. Thambidurai, and V. Maitreyan to Ahmedabad when Mr. Modi observed a three-day fast for “peace, unity and harmony.”
