Row over short anthem

May 24, 2015 01:17 am | Updated April 02, 2016 11:46 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The playing of the shorter version of the national anthem at the beginning of the swearing-in ceremony created a flutter on social media.

According to the guidelines put up on the Ministry of Home Affairs website, the national anthem has to be played in full on the arrival and departure of the Governor.

The national anthem was played in full at the end of the ceremony.

However, sources in Raj Bhavan and the State government said the shorter version was the preferred one to be played during the arrival of the Governor for many years now. “In Tamil Nadu, you should understand that the Tamil Thai Vaazthu [invocation to Tamil] is also played after the anthem,” officials said.
