Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene and ensure timely supply of allotted quantity of Di-Ammonium Phosphate and other fertilisers, saying the State had not received the full quota of its due share.
“I wish to bring to your kind notice that the State has been given an allocation of 2 lakh tonnes of DAP by the Government of India for Kharif season 2011. With regard to allocation of 47,000 tonnes of DAP up to May 2011, the State has received only 20,000 tonnes. There is already a shortfall of 27,000 tonnes and we will require an additional 30,000 tonnes in June 2011 for Kuruvai cultivation,” she said.
In a letter to Dr. Singh, she said that with predictions of onset of Southwest Monsoon as per schedule and “encouraging” levels of water in major reservoirs, the State was geared up for cultivation during the ensuing Kharif season.
“I request your kind intervention for ensuring the timely supply of the allotted quantity of DAP and other fertilisers,” she said.
