AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa offered prayers at the Chamundeshwari temple atop the Chamundi Hills on Thursday.

Ms. Jayalalithaa, who turned 63 today, arrived here by a special flight around 11.45 pm and reached the temple by noon. Special arrangements were made for her and entry to the shrine was closed for devotees for some time.

She was received by a temple priest with “poornakumbham,” and taken to the temple accompanied by nadaswaram vadyam.

Security along the road leading to the temple had been tightened and movement of vehicles was restricted. Ms. Jayalalithaa spent 20 minutes at the temple and acknowledged birthday greetings with a “thank you.”

A few supporters of AIADMK, including office-bearers from Hosur and Bangalore, offered bouquet to Ms. Jayalalithaa.
