Exchanges pleasantries with the MDMK general secretary
The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, on Tuesday had an impromptu meeting with the general secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Vaiko, on the Old Mahabalipuram Road and exchanged pleasantries with the latter, who is on a padayatra demanding total prohibition in Tamil Nadu.
The informal meeting is likely to assuage the bitter feelings that erutped between the two leaders over seat-sharing for the 2011 Assembly elections.
Mr Vaiko’s MDMK stayed away from contesting elections after the two parties failed to reach an understanding.
The Chief Minister spotted Mr Vaiko when he was heading towards Payyanur from Tiruporur, the temple town in Kancheepuram district. She was on her way to Siruthavur after inaugurating budget restaurants of the Chennai Corporation.
Mr Vaiko said that he noticed Ms. Jayalalithaa directing the driver to stop the car and before he could reach the car, she had stepped out.
He said that Ms. Jayalalithaa asked him “Are you fine? Why are you straining yourself so much?” He also inquired about her health.
Objective of march
When she asked him about the objective of long walk, Mr Vaiko explained that he wanted total prohibition in the State.

I think I speak for the whole of Tamil Nadu when I say that the
combination of AIADMK and MDMK will revolutionise our political
landscape. I would willingly vote for such an alliance.
Vaiko is an excellent Human and a Politician, it would be great if both
the parties merge and he becomes a deputy CM for now and later a CM if
possible.
This is nice. Once in a while, despite fighting amongst each other, it feels nice to see such a gesture and read such news. It does not look contrived also - it looks to me a natural spontaneous gesture which shows that deep down there is respect for each others' capabilities and achievements. I know that many a first reaction to this news will be cynical and sceptical, but not for me. This is nice, gives a good feeling.
Hope Ms. Jayalalitha will heed to the Total prohibition demand. I understand that Thamizh aruvi Manian has also proposed an alternative plan for revenue and suggested TASMAC closure. If the CM decides to close TASMAC and introduce total prohibition, many women will bless and support her.
Hope she does it soon.
Let decency like this follow with all politicians. It shows the great persons like EVR and Rajaji as example of great character to other politicians.
Vaiko is doing a great service to Tamilnadu and India for bringing a new
awareness among the people for total Prohibition like Mahatma Gandhi.
The women and the vast majority of men will support this campaign. All
the best Vaiko.
This man was arrested and put behind bars by no less person than JJ.He was tottering in the jail for nearly 6 months.Either these kind of people are naive or the people who elect them.
by wishing her a birthday wishes in
advance,is also a nice reciprocal.Better sense prevail among our other
political leaders, like central leaders,to mingle freely inspite of
political differences yourself
What one realises after reading this piece of news is that we are all blessed in skin and blood and sweat ,,one wishes that tamil nadu will be numero uno state in the world--well we cannot have the ''capital money''and cannot match rich cities but can be self sufficient in character,, money and
Vaiko is a good politician and a parliamentarian. This act showns the
broadmindedness and respect of Madam Jayalalitha for vaiko. Kudos to
her. There is nothing to read in between the lines.
