Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday inaugurated a slew of projects and schemes, three of which covered her Assembly constituency Srirangam.
Through videoconferencing at the Secretariat, she inaugurated constituent arts and science colleges in nine places; five bus routes in Srirangam; patta transfer scheme on fast track mode; buildings for Madras Reporters' Guild on Omandurar Government Estate, 65th branch of the Central Cooperative Bank at MMDA Colony [falling under Anna Nagar assembly constituency] and an outpatient ward of the Government Hospital in Avinashi of Tirupur District and the memorial for the freedom fighter Subramania Siva at Pappareddipatti of Dharmapuri district.
One of the nine colleges is located in Srirangam. The launch of the patta transfer scheme has been done in the same constituency.
The other colleges are situated at Nemmeli (Kancheepuram district), Nagalapuram (Tuticorin), Harur (Dharampuri), Kallakurichi (Villupuram), Sattur (Virudhunagar), Vedaranyam (Nagapattinam), Tirupattur (Vellore) and Thiruthuraipoondi (Tiruvarur). Besides, the Chief Minister approved the establishment of two constituent colleges in Pappareddipatti and Nannilam (Tiruvarur) during the current academic year.
As per the new patta transfer scheme, village administrative officers (VAOs) would be present in their respective villages on Mondays to receive petitions for the transfer of ownership of land/property. If a VAO is in charge of one more village, he or she will go to such a village on Tuesday to get petitions. By Friday, the petitions would be submitted at the offices of tashildars concerned.
In respect of petitions that did not relate to sub-division of properties, orders would be issued within 15 days and in the case of other category of petitions, the timeframe would be 30 days.
The respective tashildars had to ensure that the transfer of ownership had been effected within the specified timeframe. The government also ordered that data should be computerised at every stage of processing of applications for patta transfer. As on April 30, there were about 51,000 petitions that did not relate to the sub-division of properties and 86,000 petitions that pertained to properties' sub-division.
The 205-square metre memorial for Subramania Siva (1884-1925) was constructed at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh over 85 cents. The Reporters' Guild building of about 3,520 sq. ft. was built at a cost of Rs. 39 lakh. It had two halls. R. Rangaraj, president of the Guild, presented a memento to the Chief Minister.
At the Avinashi hospital, the new buildings of 334 square metres were built at a cost of Rs.70.9 lakh under the National Rural Health Mission.
