Jayalalithaa, Karunanidhi slam fuel price hike

June 29, 2013 11:57 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 10:14 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Saturday said the hike in petrol price would escalate the cost of other commodities, thereby worsening the burden of the common man.

Condemning the price hike, she urged the Union Government to take effective steps to control the fall in the value of the rupee against US currency.

By increasing the price of petrol on three occasions in a month, the Centre has proved that it had no concern for people’s sentiments.

In a statement, Ms. Jayalalithaa called for withdrawal of the price hike and said the reasons cited for increasing the price of petrol was not justifiable.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi urged the Centre to find some alternative means instead of increasing the price of fuel.
