Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who has been “dodging” the disproportionate income case in a Bangalore court for the last 18 years has no moral right to speak about the 2G spectrum scam, according to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) treasurer M.K. Stalin.
Addressing a public meeting here on Sunday, he said Ms.Jayalalithaa had sought 200 adjournments in her case. Besides, it was for the first time in the Indian history that a public prosecutor had been imposed a fine of Rs.65,000 for not appearing in the case.
“That the public prosecutor has not appeared for the second day creates a doubt among the people as to whether he will be paying the fine from his pocket or the money will be “supplied” to him by somebody else,” he said. The then Union Minister for Communication A. Raja resigned his post and was jailed. He had been fighting the case in the court.
“He has told that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the then Finance Minister P. Chidambaram should appear before the Joint Parliamentary Committee in this regard,” he said.
Earlier, Mr.Stalin sought votes for the Democratic Progressive Alliance candidates in the Lok Sabha election to put an end to the “dictatorship under the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam rule in the State”.
Addressing voters of Tenkasi Parliamentary constituency in Rajapalayam on Sunday, he said the Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK government had not only failed to bring any new schemes for the welfare of the people of the State, but had also scrapped all the good schemes introduced by the previous DMK rule.
The AIADMK government had increased the price of milk, doubled bus fares and also increased electricity charges. “But, in the entire five-year rule of the DMK, the then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had not increased bus fares,” he said.
He said the DMK government had encouraged the weavers by providing free power supply to powerlooms and procuring saris and dhoties for free distribution.
“But now the powerloom weavers were hit by the power cut prevailing in the State,” he said.
Mr.Stalin sought votes for Puthiya Tamilagam founder and Tenaksi Lok Sabha candidate K. Krishnasamy, and DMK candidate for Virudhunagar constituency S. Rethinavelu in Rajapalayam and Srivilliputtur segments. He later addressed a public meeting in Srivilliputtur.
He spoke at Murambu, Solapuram, Rajapalayam, Mamsapuram and Srivilliputtur.
