“Jayalalithaa has lost all hopes of alliance with Congress”

January 15, 2011 01:02 am | Updated November 17, 2021 05:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Friday said that AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa had lost all hopes of an alliance between her party and the Congress and was now looking to other parties for tie-up.

Replying to questions, Mr. Karunanidhi referred to her earlier statements on alliance between the two parties and said the truth came out after the Congress president and the Prime Minister affirmed that the ties between the DMK and the Congress were strong.

Following this, she started attacking the Central government and the new Union Communications Minister, Kapil Sibal. Knowing the real face of Ms. Jayalalithaa, the Congress had not considered the party's ties with the AIADMK.

To another question, he detailed the steps taken by the Centre following his telegram to the Prime Minister on the killing of a fisherman by the Sri Lankan Navy, and the subsequent developments.

Answering another question on the relocation of slum tenements in Srinivasapuram and a proposed commercial hub at Foreshore Estate, he said reports in a section of the media that it had been planned to allocate land for commercial hub were contrary to truth.

Also, the information that it had been planned to construct commercial complexes and star hotels abutting the coast and a park at Srinivasapuram was baseless.
