Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday dropped Law Minister Esakki Subaya from her Cabinet and inducted P. Chendur Pandian, who represents Kadayanallur Assembly constituency. She also shuffled the portfolios of a few ministers.

Mr. Subaya, elected from Amabasamduram, is the first minister to be dropped from the present cabinet. The portfolios of Law, Courts and Prisons held by him have been allotted to Information Minister G. Senthamizhan.

Chendur Pandian has been made minister for Khadi and Village Industries Board, Bhoodan and Gramdhaan. These subjects were earlier held by Handlooms and Textiles Minister B.V. Ramana. A press release from Raj Bhavan said the swearing-in ceremony of the new minister will be held on Monday. Other changes in the cabinet concerned the portfolios of Agri S.S. Krishnamoorthy, Budhichandran and S. Gokula Indira.

The subjects of Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Protection and Price Control managed by Mr. Krishnamoorthy, have been allotted to Mr. Budhichandran, who held the portfolios of Tourism and Tourism Development Corporation. Ms. Gokula Indira gets the Tourism and Tourism Development Corporation.

The portfolios of Commercial Taxes, Registration and Stamp Act held by her have been reallocated to Mr. Krishnamoorthy. The budget session of the Assembly will begin on August 4. The revised budget will be present on the day.
