Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has condemned the hike in the price of petrol/diesel and called for withdrawal of the same as it would add to the burden of the common man and weaken the nation’s economy.

Criticising the Centre for enhancing fuel prices at frequent intervals, she demanded that right of oil companies to decide on the price of petrol/diesel should be withdrawn.

In a statement, she said fuel prices were increased only on July 2 this year. Escalating cost of petrol in the international market was cited as a reason for Wednesday’s hike.

The hike would have an impact on farmers, small traders, vehicle users and others. The cost of essential commodities would also go up.

Ms. Jayalalithaa warned that the people would teach a lesson to the Congress-led Government at the Centre.
