Jayalalithaa concerned about security of EVMs

April 15, 2011 01:26 am | Updated 01:26 am IST - CHENNAI:

AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa conveyed her thanks to the Election Commission of India for the conduct of free and fair elections, expressing, at the same time, her apprehension over the safety of voting machines until counting day.

With a month to go for counting to commence, electronic voting machines are supposed to be safeguarded at counting centres all over the State.

During this period, Ms. Jayalalitha charged that the only the State police would have custody of the EVMs.

She said the fact that “the policemen who were in the employ of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi” would be in charge, was worrisome.

Further, in a statement, she petitioned the EC to allow members of the AIADMK and alliance partners to station themselves round the clock at the counting centres until May 13 — counting day.
