Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa arrived here at Parappana Agrahara on Tuesday morning to record her statements before the Special Court hearing the Rs. 66 crore disproportionate assets case.
This is her third appearance before the court after the two appearances in October third week when she recorded her statements to about 567 questions of the total 1,339 questions that have been framed following evidence by 259 witnesses. Recording of statements for questions framed based on evidence of 150 witnesses have been completed already.
Ms. Jayalalithaa was accompanied by her friend Sasikala, who is also a co-accused in the case, and their convoy entered the Special Court premises around 10.45 a.m.
Even though the court had directed her to appear before it on November 8, she had sought fresh dates for appearance following which the court had posted the matter to Tuesday.
The Special Court has been set up at Gandhi Bhavan in Parappanana Agrahara owing to the security threat that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister faces. A large posse of policemen from both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were present around the Special Court complex while journalists covering the case and anxious party workers were stopped about a km away from the court.
While Ilavarasi, another co-accused in the case, had accompanied Ms. Jayalalithaa on the two occasions earlier, she did not appear on Tuesday. Another accused T.V. Sudhakaran was also not present.
In contrast to her earlier visits to the court which attracted hundreds of supporters to the venue, only some activists of the AIADMK were present on Tuesday.
