Jayalalithaa announces solatium

The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, on Wednesday announced a solatium of Rs. 1 lakh each to the families of five persons who were killed when a >banyan tree fell on the shelter in Narayanathevanpatti in the Uthamapalayam area in Theni district.

Due to heavy rain, the tree fell on a roadside shelter meant for dhobis late on Tuesday night. Ramesh, son of Thirupandi, Manikandan, son of Marudha Thevar, Thirupandi, son of Kasi Thevar from Kullappagoundenpatti village, Singa Thevar, son of Shanmuga Thevar, and Gunasekaran, son of Bathervellaya Thevar, were killed.

The Chief Minister expressed her condolences to the families of the bereaved.

Ms. Jayalalithaa also announced a grant of Rs. three lakh each to the next of kin of four persons killed by wild animals recently.

In a press release here, she said V. Veliyan of Paingal in Nilgiris district was killed in a wild boar attack. M. Chandran of East Aykudi in Dindigul district and K. Jaisankar of Glenvans area in Nilgiris district were killed when wild elephants attacked them in different incidents. D. Radhakrishnan of Vedankulam, Tiruvannamalai district was killed by a crocodile.
