Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Monday congratulated Satish Kumar Sivalingam for winning a gold medal in weightlifting in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

“You have done both the nation and the state of Tamil Nadu proud by winning a gold medal and setting a new Commonwealth Games record,” she said, in a congratulatory letter to Sivalingam.

It was even more remarkable to win the gold at his first international event of this scale, she said.

“As you are aware, I had announced an increase in financial reward for sportspersons winning a Commonwealth gold medal to Rs. 50 lakh in December, 2011. You will now be eligible to receive this cash incentive,” she said.
