Main road has not been laid in five or six years: residents

Roads in Jaya Nagar are in need of attention. Residents allege that the condition of the roads lead to not only inconvenience but also accidents.

The Jaya Nagar Main Road, which connects the area to Villianur Main Road, in particular, is full of potholes.

The road has not been laid in five or six years, alleges a resident. Commuting has become tough and there has been even a case of a fatal accident on this road, he adds.

Another resident says that accidents are common at the spot where Jaya Nagar Main Road meets Villianur Main Road.

The area is very poorly maintained. The situation has become worse with construction debris being dumped at various points. Besides, when the roads are dug up for some work, the pits are not closed. The earth dug up is also left on the roadside, he adds. The developing areas of Jaya Nagar also do not have tar roads.

A member of the residents' association says that the roads have remained a cause for concern for a year now.

Though the association has tried to bring the matter to the attention of municipal authorities, it would soon be taking up the issue seriously.

Too many vehicles, including buses belonging to colleges and private firms, are parked on the roads leading to lot of inconvenience.

Authorities concerned should look into the issue at the earliest, he adds.
