Jawahar Suryakumar, DMK candidate for by-poll

J. Jawahar Suryakumar is the DMK's candidate for the by-election to Sankarankoil Assembly (reserved) constituency, party president M. Karunanidhi announced on Friday.

The 41-year old Suryakumar is a lawyer from Sankarankoil.

He hails from a Congress family and his father M. James was the Congress (O) candidate in 1971 election in the constituency. The late Union Minister M. Arunachalam was his uncle. Mr Suryakumar is a DMK member, actively working for its advocates wing.

A panel comprising Mr. Karunanidhi, party general secretary K. Anbazhagan, treasurer M.K. Stalin, Union Minister M.K. Alagiri and deputy general secretary Sarguna Pandian finalised his name after interviewing aspirants. As many as 41 persons, including eight women, had applied for the ticket.
