It would be a long weekend for students and those working in government offices in Tamil Nadu, as the Tamil Nadu government has declared a public holiday on January 17, 2017 in view of the 100th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran.

The public holiday would apply to government offices, various Boards and Corporations constituted by the government, public sector undertakings, local bodies, banks, including cooperative banks, industrial establishments, schools, colleges and all educational institutions.

A G.O. to this effect under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, would be notified in an extraordinary issue of the State government gazette. The government also requested other organisations to consider granting the public holiday to their employees considering the significance of the day.
