Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s South Zone organising secretary M.K. Alagiri, also a Member of Parliament representing the Madurai constituency, on Wednesday accused the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government of indulging in vindictive politics by denying Anna University affiliation to an engineering college, established by a trust named after him, at Sivarakottai near here.
Addressing journalists at his residence here, he said the AIADMK government had hardly achieved anything since it came to power in the State two and a half years ago. “Their only achievement is to have taken vindictive action against me,” he said and claimed that Dhaya College of Engineering had been denied affiliation with a mala fide intention. He accused the Madurai district administration and the Madurai Corporation for not implementing public welfare schemes, for which he had sanctioned funds from his Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme.
He said the relocation of the central vegetable market from near the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple to the site near Maatuthavani bus stand was “one of his biggest achievements” as it could not be done even when M.G. Ramachandran was Chief Minister. Nearly 14 modern and free-to-use public toilets constructed in the city during his tenure as a Minister had been converted into paid toilets.
