A 27-year-old man died after the bike he was riding collided head-on with an MTC Bus on Kamarajar Salai on Saturday night.
According to the police, Tamil Selvan, 27, a resident of Royapuram, worked in an IT company.
On Saturday around 10.45 p.m, he went to Guindy on his friend’s bike and was returning home.
When he was near PRO Gate on Kamarajar Salai, the MTC bus, which was heading to Kovalam, collided with his bike. Tamil Selvan, who was speech and hearing impaired, sustained head injuries and was rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival.
The Anna Square traffic investigation police have registered a case.
They suspect that Tamil Selvan was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Bus driver Purusothuman, 34, was arrested.
Motorists complain that rash driving is common on the Beach Road during non-peak hours. “In the mornings, buses and cars drive on the wrong side of the road to over take other vehicles. This puts the lives of other motorists in danger,” said S. Abdul, a resident of Triplicane.
Police officers however claim that they have been booking cases against over speeding, racing and for not wearing helmet on a regular basis. “The motorists should also become disciplined,” said an officer.
