The former Union Minister, M.K. Alagiri, on Friday said he was certain his suspension from the party was ordered without the approval of his father and DMK president M. Karunanidhi.

Saying that the suspension had come as a surprise to him, Mr. Alagiri noted that he had gone abroad after informing Mr. Karunanidhi and returned here only on Thursday night.

“I am sure that this action does not have the approval of Kalaignar. It is possible that the decision might have been taken without his knowledge; I never indulged in any anti-party activity. Everybody knows my contribution to the party, particularly in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu, and its growth over the years,” he told The Hindu.

Mr. Alagiri reiterated his stand that Mr. Karunanidhi was his only leader as he could not imagine a DMK without him.
