An integrated satellite township is to be established over an extent of 587 acres near Madurai airport, Chief Minister Jayalailthaa announced on Thursday.
The proposed township will be located about 15 km from Madurai in the villages of Thoppur and Ucchapatti, off Madurai-Tiruneveli four-lane highway. The satellite township would have 19,500 plots, of which 14,300 plots would be earmarked for low income group, 2,500 plots for middle income group and 750 plots for high income group, the Chief Minister said. The township project would be implemented out of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board funds, Ms. Jayalalithaa added.
Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly, Ms. Jayalailthaa said the township would have basic amenities to be created at a cost of Rs. 120 crore. Besides, it would house a school complex, police station, post office, primary health facility and developed plots for industry, among others, the Chief Minister said.
