The vantage points such as street corners are occupied by autorickshaw drivers. Those sitting idle among them tease the passersby, especially women who wait for buses. Will the Commissioner of Police crack the whip and evict these autorickshaw drivers and prevent harassment of women?

Insurance cards

not yet issued

The formats for issuing insurance cards under the New Health Insurance Scheme for Pensioners/Family Pensioners, 2014, were submitted in June 2014. But till date, the insurance cards have not been issued to many. Senior citizens, mostly septuagenarians, are forced to visit the treasury office in Tiruchi frequently. Pensioners who come from far-off places find it difficult to deal with this ordeal. I request the authorities concerned to issue the insurance cards early.

Remove hyacinth

from Cauvery bed

As the monsoon has set in, the authorities concerned can now come forward to remove the weeds on the Cauvery riverbed. Silt should be removed. Letting out untreated wastewater from the residential and nearby areas into the river should be prevented. Request the Public Works Department to do the needful at the earliest.

Erect more

bus shelters

Tiruchirapalli City Corporation is replacing the existing bus shelters along the major roads. This is appreciable. At the same time, concern has to be shown to provide bus shelters along the other parts of the city, particularly in places such as Vayalur Road. Not even basic shelters have been provided at the Bishop Heber College Junction, Kumaran Nagar, Srinivasa Nagar, Geetha Nagar, and Shanmuga Nagar although these bus stops fall within the corporation limits. Request the corporation authorities concerned to erect bus shelters in the interest of residents of the area.

Expensive affair

Solid waste is detrimental to environment. Managing solid waste is proving to be an expensive affair. Instead of using it for wealth creation, we are considering it as a heavy burden. If the waste is collected and used for vermiculture, it will be useful for enriching the soil.

The people of Tiruchi must adopt innovative and environment-friendly approach to make it the cleanest city.

Plant Basil saplings

Basil (Tulsi) has many medicinal and environmental benefits in contrast to the Karuvelam trees which harm our eco-system. The Tiruchirapalli City Corporation should launch a campaign to plant Basil saplings.

Fill potholes

I request the authorities concerned to fill two potholes, one in the middle and the other in the southern end of the Racquet Court Lane in the interest of road users. These potholes have been there for several months and are becoming bigger day by day.

Solve shortcomings

Public grievances, especially those relating to lack of infrastructure such as road, underground drain, stray cattle, and dogs and seemai karuvel appear time and again in this column. But it is regrettable that proper action is not taken by the authorities concerned. Should the regular taxpayers continue to live with the shortcomings? The authorities concerned should set right the issues at the earliest.

School needs funds

The Corporation Middle School at Edamalaipattipudur was started in 1936 as an elementary school and it was upgraded as a middle school in 1990s. It has taken more than half a century to upgrade it as middle school. The corporation has spent funds to develop it as a model school and the school is spick and span. At present, nearly 400 children are studying in this school which should be upgraded to higher secondary level. This will be a great boon for the children in ward nos. 39, 40, and 41 of Tiruchirapalli City Corporation. The elected representatives can provide money for the new buildings from their local area development funds.

Approach right guru

It has become fashionable to say “I do yoga” without cutting down on fatty foods and fried stuff in addition to the absence of other regular exercise such as walking. Taking advice of qualified yoga guru would do good to regulate the lifestyle and attain the benefits of yoga.

Spruce up roundabout

The traffic island or the roundabout near Mannarpuram four roads should be given a facelift with green look. If the corporation is unable to do it, it can ask banks or private companies to step in. Let it be the first step to make Tiruchi a green city.
