‘Install cell phone signal jammers in prisons’

The Hindu Munnani at its state general body meeting held here on Sunday gave a call for installing mobile phone jammers in Tamil Nadu prisons. The outfit’s state organiser K. Bhaktan said jammers to block signals were essential in prisons as reports indicated that some of the attacks on Hindu leaders were masterminded inside prisons.

“It is a known fact that mobile phones are smuggled and used in many prisons. So, we need to place signal jammers like the initiative recently carried out by Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi in Puducherry prisons replicating what she did during her tenure in prisons as an IPS officer,” he added.

Mr. Bhaktan said no compensation was needed from State government for families of the Munnani leaders who were either killed or injured in the attacks. “Extending some peanuts is actually an insult to us,” he said. Mr. Bhaktan said the Munnani felt sorry for the violence that occurred in Coimbatore soon after its functionary C. Sasikumar was murdered last week.
