Inspector arrested on graft charge

I. Devadoss, Inspector of Police attached to Anti-Land Grab Wing of the district police, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a person for deleting his name from a first information report here on Thursday.

Trap laid

Sleuths of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption laid a trap for Mr. Devadoss in a private lodge on District Court Road.

To remove names

A team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DVAC) C. S. Rajan Roy, arrested the Inspector while accepting the money to remove the names of Babu Antony and his wife from a land grab case.

He was produced before a local court and remanded in judicial custody.

Mr. Roy told The Hindu that the Inspector had demanded Rs. 50,000 as bribe from Babu Antony of Parvathipuram

Appeal

Mr. Roy appealed to the people to inform over phone any instance of bribery demand in government offices to the Office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Directorate of Vigilance, behind Collector’s Camp Office. Mobile: 94436 81769 and Phone: 04652-227339.
