Injured elephant dies during treatment in Mudumalai

An elephant which was injured after being hit by a bus near Hosur in Krishnagiri district and brought to a camp in Mudumalai for treatment died on Wednesday.

The 10-year-old pachyderm sustained serious injuries on its rear right leg and spinal chord after a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus hit it as the elephant was trying to cross the road on July 4.

It was brought to the Theppakkadu elephant camp in Mudumalai on Tuesday night for treatment, but died around 12.30 p.m. on Wednesday, forest department sources said.
