The Indian community in Sydney braved heavy rain and hailstones on Wednesday evening to pay homage to murdered Indian techie Prabha Arun Kumar.

A community walk was organised from Argyle Street, near the Parramatta train station where Prabha alighted the train, to Park Ave where she was killed.

The programme was almost called off owing to the storm in the area. However, the clouds cleared in the preceding hours thus paving the way for the walk to be held. Around 500 people took part in a candlelight vigil and walk.

“Tearful and emotional members of the Indian community gathered on the Parramatta Park pathway despite heavy rain and wet weather to light candles and pray for Prabha Arun Kumar. Everyone has the right to be safe anywhere. Crowd bowed their heads for one minute’s silence before continuing speeches,” posted Manju Mittal on Facebook.

Another member who took part in the walk, Sushu Raj, posted: “It was really a terrible feeling as we walked the path that Prabha had taken that fateful night.”
