The Department of Commerce, Periyar University, organised a special lecture programme on the topic “various innovative research dimensions in Commerce and Management” on Monday.
The speaker, L. S. Ganesh, professor of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, explained the importance of research in various dimensions of higher education.
Standard
He said that when research standard was compared at international level, India’s research was not that standard, long way to go to place the Indian research on a par with international standard.
He also stated that, India needed lot of changes in research aspects, particularly the theoretical aspect should be changed into the practical implementation of research.
He said that 90 per cent of the research in India was empirical research only.
New approach
He explained that the research discovered new knowledge through practically oriented research and also the existing (theoretical and empirical) and the new approach (case studies) in research methodology aspects.
In the new approach of research, he narrated the limitation of case study that the researcher was having less ability to express their research work in written form.
Knowledge
In the next phase, he revealed the thumb rule of research, that the thesis should contain their own new knowledge, which they generated in their research course.
A.Elangovan, professor and head, Department of Commerce, offered felicitations.
