Sri Lanka's 63rd Independence Day was celebrated by the country's Deputy High Commission here on Friday.

The mission is holding a series of events to celebrate the occasion over the next few days, a press communiqué from the Deputy High Commission said.

The Sri Lankan flag was hoisted on the mission premises on Friday, with religious dignitaries and Sri Lankan expatriates attending the event.

Coinciding with the formal ceremony, a Sri Lankan Food Festival also began at Accord Metropolitan hotel here on Friday evening. The festival will continue until February 13.

Another event would be held on Saturday at the Mahabodhi Centre here.

On February 8, again at the Accord Metropolitan hotel, an event Visit Sri Lanka–2011 would be held to promote the island nation as a preferred tourist destination among Indians.
