The Income Tax Department on Wednesday recorded statements of three people whose premises it raided over the last few days. MGR University Vice Chancellor S. Geethalakshmi, actor-turned-politician R. Sarathkumar, and his wife and chairperson and managing director of Radaan Mediaworks India Ltd R. Radikaa Sarathkumar appeared before the department officials.

A senior official from the I-T investigations wing said, “She (Geethalakshmi) came for the inquiry and we recorded her statements. The investigations are still on and she would have to come again whenever she is called. So far, the statements given by her are not convincing at all,” he said.

The department has reportedly found that Radaan Mediaworks, owned by actor Radikaa Sarathkumar, has evaded tax to the tune of ₹5 crore. This has got nothing to do with R.K. Nagar elections.

The department has reportedly found that Radaan Mediaworks, owned by actor Radikaa Sarathkumar, has evaded tax to the tune of ₹5 crore. “While verifying the books, we found that tax has been evaded,” said an income tax official.

He added, “We have questioned Radikaa too and have recorded her statements. Simultaneously, Sarathkumar’s version was also recorded.” The officials said that it was too early to comment on the outcome of the inquiries. “We cannot come to a conclusion now. There are a lot of interconnections in these cases. We can’t say anything immediately,” the official said. With regard to Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar, the officials said that they were looking into the details and evidence collected so far, including papers and documents.

Police complaint lodged

The Income Tax Department (Investigation) wing on Wednesday forwarded a complaint to the city police for registering a criminal case against Ministers R. Kamaraj, Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan, Kadambur Raju, and Special Representative to Government in New Delhi N. Thalavai Sundaram.

The complainants alleged that at the time of search in the house of Mr. Vijaya Baskar, the trio — Mr. Kamaraj, Mr. Radhakrishnan, Mr. Sundaram — along with others barged into the premises and obstructed the officials from discharging their duties besides harassing and criminally intimidating them.

A woman officer has preferred a complaint along with others, sources in the I-T Department said. The complaint was forwarded by I-T Director General (Investigations) to the City Police Commissioner seeking action, sources said.

Meanwhile, a driver of Mr. Vijaya Baskar has lodged a complaint against a few CISF constables.
