Member of Parliament (Tirupur) V. Sathyabama has taken to the notice of the Union Railway Minister the urgency for upgrading facilities at Tirupur railway station and also the need for new projects in the hinterlands of Tirupur.
Ms. Sathybama told The Hindu over the phone that she had raised the topics during a specific discussion on railway related-matters on the floors of Parliament.
“One of the main things that needed the immediate intervention of the Ministry was ensuring that all the passenger-carrying trains stopping at Tirupur should load cargo.
The Railways should take back the rule enforcing restrictions that prevent loading of cargo in passenger trains that stop less than five minutes”, she said.
The MP pointed out that because of the said restrictions, cargoes could now be loaded only in just eight passenger carrying trains or so. “Since Tirupur is an industrial cluster, such restrictions are a deterrent to development”, she said.
She sought for new railway line from Sathyamangalam to Chennai via Gobichettipalayam and Erode.
