Pictures of LTTE leader Prabakaran’s son Balachandran in military custody before being shot dead evoked shock and strong condemnation from political parties in Tamil Nadu.
Reacting to the report, based on photographs released by Channel 4 as part of a new video film on alleged war crimes in the end stage of the civil war in Sri Lanka in 2009, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said she would express her views only after watching the full video.
CPI(M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan said, “The barbaric killing of a child bears testimony to the human rights violations of the Sri Lankan government and its Army. The act of the Sri Lankan Army has made the civilised world hang its head in shame.”
He wanted the Indian government to take up the issue strongly and ensure that those responsible for the atrocity were brought to book. It should also prevail upon international organisations to put pressure on the Sri Lankan government to investigate the incident, he added.
Pattali Makkal Katchi leader S. Ramadoss said the killing of the small boy was heart-breaking. Forensic analysis of the photographs had proved beyond doubt that he had been murdered. “Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa should be made to face trial for the murder,” he said.
Dr Ramadoss said though there was adequate evidence to pin down the Sri Lankan government on violations of human rights and President Rajapaksa had drawn international condemnation, there was no change in the country’s attitude. “That is because countries like India roll out the red carpet whenever he visits the country.”
National award-winning lyricist Vairamuthu said visiting temple after temple and embarking on pilgrimages would not cleanse Mr Rajapaksa’s soul of the stain and no god would forgive him for having an innocent child killed.

I am ashamed as an Indian first that our UPA and DMK were directly responsible for such brutal massacre of innocent child in Lanka.
He was LTTE leaders son no doubt and could be a threat when he grows up no doubt, but even brutal rapists in India who are 17.99 years are protected saying he is a juvenile. Where is justice? what is justice. I am totally ashamed of being an Indian. Is it what Gandhi taught us? Could be? The mistake Gandhi did was to install Nehru as our leader and it has spoiled the entire Nation and culture totally in 60 years.
we have all become corrupt. We support corrupt leaders who indulge in indirect murders (such as UPA and DMK did in this case). UPA wanted more investments (private) in Lanka and also wanted revenge for Rajiv killing. DMK wanted to protect their own from multi Billion crore scams which they are involved.
The shame is still we are entertaining Rajapaksa and his chumchas entering India.
I can see a lot of Srilankan ppls mentioning the atrocities of LTTE
against Sinhalas.(Priya: what goes around comes around). But the thing
is v clear, The war crimes of Sinhalas as majorities, enjoying the
power of the state is noway comparable with a minority organisation
LTTE(Analytically or politically whatsoever). It is evident from their
comments that they want to take revenge, they want to hide their
revenge in the silence. In America, there are lot of institutions,
large number of ppls are against the war policies of the country. They
are not saying they want to take revenge for 9/11.This is what a
difference between democratic ppls and hypocrite ppls.
It is disturbing to see Sri Lankans writing on the message condemning LTTE and justifying murder. Why are you publishing such corrupt statements. If you are so ethical, please also publish this.
Why did LTTE start the war first? because SriLankans were jealous of Indians getting better and wanted to rid them for ever and started many suppression measures. This prompted one sect to form LTTE and fight. Whether LTTE used violence or not is another matter, they were defending their area. Why was your army incapable of conquering them for many years and did it after the India foxes from UPA and DMK did a back stabing of the Indians in Lanka. What shame it was for Indians and Tamils in TN? What Rajapaksa did is murder and cannot be justified.
Even worse than Rajapaksa is the Indian UPA and DMK who for getting material benefits have so long been back stabbing all Tamils in Lanka and India both. they are also to be punished.
It's all Mr Karunnanithi's fault. The Foreign Minister MR Kurshid appears to supports
Sri lanka government's version that the C4 photos cannot be vouched. What else to
expect from Mr Kurshid? I am sure DMK will continue to support so Mr Kurshid
remains a minister in Delhi and Sonia's government survives.
How many innocent Men, Women & Children did the LTTE hold as hostages and also kill by sucide bombs. Two wrongs do not make it right but in War a lot of innocent people get killed.
I do not like innocent people getting killed but it happens when you carry a gun.
Killing Balachandran is wrong and if any one has committed such
barbaric act he or they should be punished. However it is difficult to
understand the hypocrisy of TN people.Where were they when LTTE
slaughtered innocent sinhala children attacking their villages. As a
medical student I have seen little children as small as 3 and 4 were
chopped like vegetables. They butchered 34 innocent trainee monks by
hacking them to death.Violence against children is wrong and should be
condemned universally. Not only by SL government.Haven't you forgotten
how LTTE sent Tamil kids to war front putting the cyanide capsule
around their necks. What goes around comes around. This is what Prabha
has done to other's kids and he cannot shy away from his crimes. We
should together denounce crimes against children rather than pointing
fingers at each other to make this a better world for kids.
So long as India turns a blind eye to President rajapakse's visits and roll out red
carpets by Chief Ministers (Mr Nitish Kumar) to Indian cities the President will not be
compelled to order an international independent investigation (III). India has a duty
to ensure III to give justice to victims or otherwise isolate the Sri Lankan regime.
Truly shocking to see the planned killings of Tamils by the srilankan government. The
leaders should be made answerable for such attrocities. War crimes against srilanka must be
now a natural move with the evidence available. I request the Indian govt. to respect the
sentiments of Tamils and take a stance against srilanka.
All the Tamils should stand as one man to avenge the ghastly murder of
an innocent boy.I feel our government deliberately kept silent when
innocent civilians were massacred by Sri Lankan forces.Let all INDIANS
unite to teach Rajpaksha the lesson of his life.I do not think our govt.
will do anything.
The recent photos clearly shows the lanka's (no need for SRI) crime against humanity. The international community now must understand the evilness of the Rajapakse government and lankan army. As a Tamilian I feel ashamed of our ruling central government and last DMK regime for both helped the lankans, killing my brothers and sisters. Pls understand the double standards of our political parties and leaders.
Tamils should boycott Srilankan airlines, avoid visiting Srilanka, never buy Srilankan products and get creative to make an impact
The entire India already knows what had happened. It is seeing the pictures only now. It breaks the heart.
This shows the anger of Sri lankan govt. that not a single soul from
Prabhakaran's family should exist in this world .
All political parties should unanimously adopt a resolution to convey to
indian government to pressure srilankan government to act on this
heartbreaking incident and also other war crimes. Once again THE HINDU has
proved to be a responsible news paper and stood out among others by taking
up this issue. I would request THE HINDU to follow up on this issue until
action is taken.
