Dalit youth Ilavarasan of Natham Colony in Dharmapuri district, who married a Vanniyar girl, was murdered, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan claimed here on Wednesday.
Addressing reporters here, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that Ilavarasan did not commit suicide, as claimed by the police.
The VCK would file a case against the police in the Supreme Court to prove he was murdered.
Mr. Thirumavalavan said he was denied permission to visit Natham, Anna Nagar and Kondamapatti colonies at Naikkankottai in Dharmapuri district three times over the last one and half years. The houses in these colonies were attacked soon after the father of Divya committed suicide on November 7, 2012, over his daughter's marriage with Ilavarasan.
The VCK leader said that the denial of permission resulted in the VCK not being able to distribute relief materials worth Rs.25 lakh among the affected people of these Dalit colonies.
The police had given permission on Monday, but withdrew it the next day.
This was undemocratic, he said.
Mr. Thirumavalavan welcomed the State government’s move to release seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
Addressing party workers at a meeting later in Dharmapuri, Mr. Thirumavalavan said the VCK planned to contest all the 234 seats in the 2016 Assembly elections. “The media claims that the VCK has only two per cent of vote share in the State. But, we have 10 per cent of votes in all the constituencies. To prove our strength we will face the 2016 Assembly election alone,” he said.
