The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday dispatched IAS officers to other coastal States to coordinate rescue operations of Tamil fishermen who were stranded there due to the impact of Cyclone Ockhi.

After a review meeting here, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced that IAS officers Santhosh Babu (Karnataka), Shambu Kalolikar (Maharashtra), Chandrakant P. Kamble (Gujarat), Arun Roy (Kerala) and A. John Louis (Lakshadweep Islands) would coordinate the rescue operations in the respective States.

The Chief Minister urged the search and rescue teams of various government agencies to continue their operations until all missing fishermen were rescued.

He announced that 750 litres and 200 litres fuel would be given to stranded mechanised boats and country boats, respectively, and fishermen would be given ₹1,000 for food till they reached Tamil Nadu.

At the review meeting in which officers from the Navy, the Air Force and the Coast Guard participated along with officials from various State government agencies, Mr. Palaniswami instructed officials to inform the fishermen families as and when rescue teams receive any inputs about the location of missing fishermen.

A help desk for this has been set up at Kirathur in Kanniyakumari district.

The notes with details of suspected areas in the sea where the missing fishermen might be, continued to be exchanged between various agencies. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to ensure smooth supply of medicine and food to the families of fishermen.
