Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Treasurer M.K. Stalin on Monday refused to be drawn into any controversy over his elder brother and party south zone organising secretary M.K. Alagiri’s recent comments to the media on party leadership and future alliances.

Asked about Mr. Alagiri’s remark that he was not in favour of an alliance with the DMDK, Mr. Stalin said he had not read about it. “I don’t have the habit of reading or watching news that is irrelevant.”

When a reporter sought to know whether Mr. Alagiri was still in the DMK, Mr. Stalin chided the scribe for asking him an “irrelevant question.” On the disbandment of the party’s Madurai unit, Mr. Stalin said party president Karunanidhi and general secretary K. Anbazhagan had dwelt on the issue and announced the decision. “That is also my decision,” he said.

Mr. Stalin was here to inspect arrangements for the DMK’s two-day State conference to be held on February 15 and 16.

Speaking to reporters after opening the party office at the conference venue, Mr. Stalin, quoting Mr. Karunanidhi, said that the DMK would go along with its existing allies in the Lok Sabha polls.
