Hundreds of followers of Ayya Vaikundar from Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakunari districts gathered at Nagaraja Thidal here on Wednesday to participate in a procession to Swamithoppu on the occasion of his 183{+r}{+d}birth anniversary.

The procession, which started at Nagaraja Thidal, passed through Meenakshipuram, Kottar, Edlakudi, Kariyamanikkapuram, Suchindrum, Vazukkamparai, Ethancadu and culminated at Swamithoppu.

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation operated special buses from various destinations to Swamithoppu for the benefit of the followers of Ayya Vaikundar.

The Collectors of three districts had declared a local holiday on Wednesday.

Nanjil A. Murugesan, Thalamaipathi of Swamithoppu Bala Prajathipathi Adigalar, and others participated in the procession.

Samathuva Makkal Katchi leader R. Sarathkumar inaugurated an awareness rally on cadaver donation from the Collectorate to Swamithoppu to mark the birth anniversary.
