House burgled: cash, jewellery taken away

Unidentified miscreants entered the house of a farmer at Orathanad near here and decamped with 21 sovereigns of gold jewellery when the inmates were away on Monday.

The police said the culprits broke into the house of Balasubramanian (60) of Ponnappur near Orathanad when he and his wife Chitravalli (55) had gone out on some work, broke open the bureau and chest to take away gold jewellery weighing 21 sovereigns worth Rs. 4 lakh and Rs. 1,500 in cash.

The Orathanad police have registered a case and are investigating.
