The Hosur Ring Road project, which was conceived as a bypass to re-route the Chennai bound traffic from Bangalore, is nearing completion.
The two-phased project for a total length of 8.85 km was taken up by the State Highways Department to decongest the traffic from Bangalore into the State via Hosur town.
The project implemented under the National Service Scheme is being completed at a cumulative cost of Rs.16.43 crore. While Phase I was completed at Rs.6 crore, Phase II is being completed at Rs.10.43 crore.
The Phase I spanning over a length of 4.85 km was completed in 2011. The Phase II that was taken thereafter involving the remaining section is nearing completion.
An official source involved in the project told The Hindu that the pending works include median greenery, board markers, reflectors and other ancillary safety measures.
With the Highways Department moving on to the globally-tested Performance Based Maintenance Contract (PBMC) model, any further BT works will be awarded only after the road is left on running for five years. “The entire system has been moved to PBMC model to ensure standards and accountability of the contractor. Unlike before, the entire section of a project is handed over to a single contractor. Therefore, the completed project will be left for running for five years before any additional BT works such as widening may be awarded,” the source added.
