Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday in New Delhi.
Emerging out of the meeting, Mr. Palaniswami said he did not discuss anything related to politics. Instead, he said that he had urged the Prime Minister to speed up implementation of various schemes.
The latest memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister contains demands related to many new schemes for the State, he said.
Presidential polls
Asked about the stand of the AIADMK (Amma) in the Presidential polls, he said they would hold a discussion with the party’s senior functionaries soon. An announcement in this regard would be made later, he added.
PM invited to unveil Jayalalithaa portrait in Assembly
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and submitted a letter requesting him to unveil the portrait of Jayalalithaa in the chamber of State Assembly.
In his letter, the Chief Minister said, ``Amma had dedicated her life to the cause of Tamils worldwide and left an indelible mark on the Indian political landscape. Hon’ble Amma had made significant contributions by taking up the cause of Tamil Nadu, its language, culture and development. .
“Sir, a towering personality and statesman like you, who has upheld the finest traditions of our vibrant democracy and maintained the cherished values of our Parliamentary system, would be the befitting person to unveil the portrait of our revered leader Hon’ble Amma.” The letter said the people of Tamil Nadu would be extremely happy if the Prime Minister could consent to unveil the portrait of Jayalalithaa in the Legislative Assembly Chambers. “I, therefore, seek your convenience to grace the occasion on any day during the month of July 2017 as the Chief Guest of the function to be held in the Assembly Chamber and to unveil the portrait of Hon’ble Amma.”
MGR’s birth centenary
Mr. Palaniswami also sought Mr. Modi’s consent to be the chief guest for the birth centenary of former Chief Minister MGR between December 15 to 31.
“Sir, it would be a fitting tribute to the memory of Bharat Ratna Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR if the valedictory event of the birth centenary celebration is graced by you as Chief Guest,” the letter said.
