Hundreds of Congressmen and others paid homage to the memory of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at the latter's martyrdom place of Sriperumbudur on Wednesday on the occasion of his 23rd death anniversary.

The TNCC President, B S Gnanadesikan, led his partymen in playing floral tributes at the spot where Rajiv Gandhi fell to a woman suicide bomber attack on May 21, 1991, minutes before he was to address an election meeting there.

He handed over a solatium of Rs. 1 lakh to Indhu Rebecca Verghese, wife of slain army Major Mukund Varadarajan.

Former Union Ministers V. Narayanaswamy, Muniappa and Congress leader from Karnataka Prakasam were among those who paid tributes. People who came to pay homage at the memorial also went through an exhibition of photographs on the life of Rajiv Gandhi on display there.
