The murder of Hindu Munnani (HM) functionary Sasikumar in Coimbatore triggered protests in a few places in the district on Friday. Police arrested 93 persons when they attempted to block vehicular traffic at four places.
When the HM and the Bharatiya Janata Party cadres staged a road roko near Anna Statue near Tirunelveli Junction, the police arrested 44 persons.
In rural Tirunelveli, similar agitations were staged at Kadayanallur, Ambasamudram and Vickramasingapuram where the police arrested 49 protestors, who were released later.
In neighbouring Thoothukudi, police arrested 15 HM activists when they blocked traffic in front of the Old Bus-Stand.

As many as 311 cadres of Hindu Munnani and BJP were arrested for staging a road blockade in Nagercoil, Thuckalay and Vettuvenni near Marthandam on Friday to condemn the brutal murder of Hindu Munnani functionary Sasikumar in Coimbatore on Thursday midnight.
Senior leaders of BJP and Hindu Munnani participated in the agitationsand demanded the authorities to arrest those involved in the crime.
State vice president of BJP M.R. Gandhi presided over the road blockade agitation in front of the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) in Meenakshipuram. BJP District president Muthuraman and cadres of Hindu Munnani participated in the agitation. As many as 54 cadres of BJP and Hindu Munnani were arrested by the police.
Similarly, 122 cadres of Hindu Munnani and BJP were arrested for staging a road blockade in front of the Thuckalay bus stand. The agitation was presided over by the Hindu Munnani’s District Secretary Misa Soman.
In Vettuvenni near Marthandam 135 cadres of BJP and Hindu Munnani were arrested for staging a road roko. Former District Secretary of Hindu Munnani Kulichal Chellan presided over the agitation, police sources said.
