A school run by Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha (DBHPS), Chennai will soon be affiliated to CBSE, said its president and Chancellor Justice V.S. Malimath on Sunday.
Delivering the presidential address at the 73rd Annual Convocation of the DBHPS, he said the Sabha will offer professional courses such as B.Ed., medicine, communication and information sciences. Besides, it will conduct examinations in the U.S. for its Hindi courses, from Prathmic to Praveen.
Noting that students were permitted to choose subjects of study across other disciplines, he said "academics are increasingly becoming inter-linked and multi-disciplinary. No longer are students circumscribed by definite borders of subjects within which students have to confine their studies."
He also said that the university was under constant pressure to meet the growing needs. It needed more buildings, better classrooms, laboratories, libraries, qualified lecturers, professors and supportive administrative staff. All this called for tremendous financial support and otherwise from Human Resource Ministry that would be forthcoming in a generous measure in the near future.
In his convocation address, Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Iqbal Singh said, "if you are interested in serving the Nation, then start teaching Hindi to villagers and to those around you. Due to this Hindi usage will grow. Through this, you will play a key role in integrating the Nation."
Mr. Singh honoured senior Hindi Pracharaks from southern states, retired senior employees, rank holders of Praveen, Visharad and post graduates, outstanding students of Mahatma Gandhi Vidyalaya for 2009-2010.
He said, "any work which is done with devotion will make impossible into possible. That is how this institution has flourished for 92 years. I am also happy that this Sabha is propagating and developing the regional languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada."
B. Chinnaian, first vice-president, DBHPS, said that this year almost 13,000 students were conferred degrees in Praveen and Visharad examinations and more number of students got enrolled for regular and correspondent courses every year.
He also said that they have obtained power of conducting and issuing certificates in Hindi at post graduate level.
Justice Malimath honoured regional language litterateur of southern states and distributed awards to the first three rank holders in Tamil Nadu, who have taken Hindi as their subject in 10th and 12th standard State Board.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of Elocution competition.
