A census on vehicle density at GH Junction in Erode being undertaken by the Highways Department is indicative of the pursuance of the over bridge project at the vital location, according to an official source.

The only obstacle for the project was overcome a few months ago when statues of late leaders Kamaraj and E.V.K. Sampath were shifted to a specially erected pedestal close by.

Two developments are likely at the location: a traffic island for which the Highways has already paid compensation of Rs. 5.4 crore for land that was acquired, and the Rs. 75 crore over bridge project for which the design has reportedly in the final stage of approval. During 2014, Rs. 22.92 crore was sanctioned for land acquisition, replacement of power lines and telephone poles, and altering the alignment of the underground drainage.
