A Judge of the Madras High Court on Wednesday caused a flutter, informing a Division Bench, hearing a writ petition relating to a list of names recommended for the post of High Court Judge that the “selection is not fair.”
A Bench of Justices V. Dhanapalan and K.K. Sasidharan was hearing the public interest litigation petition for a directive to the Central and State authorities to return the list recommended in December 2013.
The petitioner submitted that the 10 persons recommended by the High Court Collegium suffered for lack of eligibility and consultation. When counsel for the petitioner was arguing the case, Justice C.S. Karnan came to the court hall without the Judge’s robes but with the chopkidar leading the way. He told the advocates that he was sorry for interrupting the proceedings, and then went on to tell the Bench that the selection was not fair. He went out after saying he wanted to file an affidavit.
