Train lovers have a reason to cheer as the Southern Railway is planning to operate a heritage special train in the city on three successive Sundays from May 27.

The Chennai division will be operating the special coaches to be pulled by Heritage Steam Loco EIR21 between Egmore and Kodambakkam.

Southern Railway officials said the heritage special train would have 40 seats. Tickets will be issued on a first-come first-served basis. The train will leave Chennai Egmore at 10 a.m. and reach Kodambakkam at 10.30 a.m.

The ticket price has been fixed at ₹650 for adults and ₹500 for children below 12. The ticket counter would be opened an hour ahead of the heritage run. A special certificate would be issued to the passengers by the station director in Egmore as a souvenir.

R.K. Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway, will flag off the first train.
