Held for sexual assault of minor

An alleged sexual assault was made on a 14-year-old girl who came from Coimbatore and got stranded at Avinashi on Wednesday.

Inspector of All Woman Police Station (Avinashi) Meena Kumari told The Hindu that V. Ganesan (58), a garment unit employee, who took the girl to a lonely area and made the sexual assault on the girl, was arrested under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Investigations are on.

Fake cheque case

Crime Branch officials have taken the custody of A. Siddiq, the sixth accused in a case where a group of people allegedly colluded to en cash Rs. 44 lakh from one of the branches of State Bank of India using a fake cheque, through an order of judicial magistrate court here on Wednesday evening.

The accused was already in Puzhal prison following arrest in a counterfeit currency note possession case in Chennai.
